Bärenstein Ski Resort is a renowned destination that boasts a beautiful circular route on the Bärenstein, presenting sweeping views of the ridge region, the Czech and German Ore Mountains, and a truly magnificent view of the Cranzahl dam. Known for its striking mountain that can be seen from afar, it offers a beautiful sight to behold.
Bärenstein is a small yet charming community situated on the B 95 between Annaberg Buchholz and Oberwiesenthal. The town is beautified by the Pöhlbach flowing through it, and features the historic Church of the Redeemer from 1655, which is worth a visit. Another point of interest is the 898m high mountain “Bärestein,” a sight to behold.
Visitors often start their journey from the hiking car park at the dam, taking well-developed forest roads around the dam and then uphill on narrow paths. The hike, though a steep climb, rewards adventurers with a panoramic view at the top, which is truly breathtaking. The hiking trails around the Bärenstein are well-developed and signposted, making the circular route very good for walkers of all abilities.
Despite being a popular destination, it is worth noting that the resort has been reported to have a lack of public toilets and the restaurant may be occasionally closed. However, when open, the restaurant offers good cuisine and a stunning view of the Ore Mountains. Visitors also report a beautiful area for hiking and driving through, making it a highly recommended destination despite the arduous climb.
