The most beautiful of the trails, the Brownsville trail, winds up the southeast side of Ascutney, passing a granite quarry and walls of boulders adorned with ferns and moss. This trail offers up-close views of nature and breathtaking views of the northeast mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire from an outcrop of massive boulders. The Brownsville and Weathersfield trail converge near the summit at an old stone hut site, with the rest of the walk providing an easy path to the lookout tower.
The main road provides the longest route to the top, offering a scenic drive up the mountain. The resort is a state-run park, accessible all year round, with trails frequented by hiking enthusiasts daily. Although you're likely to encounter fellow hikers, it's rarely crowded, ensuring a tranquil experience.
